BOYS SOCCER
Camden-Rockport 4, Medomak MS 0… At Camden, Camden-Rockport Middle School (CRMS) eighth-grade boys soccer played their best game of the season Thursday, Sept. 24 against a competitive Medomak Middle School team.
Medomak had several legitimate attempts on goal, deterred by CRMS goalkeeper Andrew Orne and a strong defensive back line.
Jay Hokkanen and Josh Saucier did an excellent job controlling the middle of the field in key defensive midfielder positions.
Max Moore showed off some beautiful footwork, scoring all four goals for CMRS in the 4-0 victory while also creating numerous opportunities for teammates to get involved with his generous passing up front.
Tuesday, Sept. 22
Camden-Rockport 2, Oceanside 0,… Camden-Rockport Middle School, the seventh grade boys team, played an excellent game today against Oceanside Middle School.
Though it was a fairly even match most of the match, CRMS pulled out a victory 2-0.
Achille Steinhoff scored a goal in the first half providing us with a lead at halftime and Sam Moody added to our lead with another goal in the second half. Oceanside put up a good fight and forced our team to practice using the wings for line and through passes.
Wednesday, Sept. 23
Troy Howard 5, Camden-Rockport 0… At Camden, Camden-Rockport Middle School seventh grade boys team played a competitive game against Troy Howard Middle School.
It was an aggressive game, and CRMS held the opposing team back with only two goals going into halftime.
“It was a new challenge for our offense as the speedy defensive line played far up making it a struggle to get through without being offsides,” said CRMS coach Amanda Heath. “However, CRMS offense put up a fight as our forwards made a few great getaways.”
Going into the second half one of the CRMS defenders was injured and as a result many other players demonstrated their flexibility as players when they were asked to try new positions defending in order to help support the defensive line.
Troy Howard scored three more goals during that half, but the team showed a lot of perseverance as they continued to challenge attacking players and never stopped giving their all in hustling up and down the field (Jason LeBlond). Another kudo to Casey Messer as he deterred many beautiful shots on goal and kept our team in the game.
COED SOCCER
Friday, Sept. 25
Lincolnville 9, Troy Howard 0,… At Belfast, The Lynx remained amongst the ranks of the undefeated by beating the Troy Howard Lions on Friday, Sept. 25.
It did not take Lincolnville’s leading scorer, midfielder Kris Kelly, very long to get on the boards as she stole the ball from a gathering crowd, veered around the crowd to the left, and cut her shot back to the far post for the initial score of the game at the 31 second mark.
That was followed in four minutes by a score from winger Jack Fishman, who received a gorgeous pass from winger Owen Markowitz that angled across the box to Fishman on the left. Fishman alertly one touched the ball into the back corner of the net.
Markowitz followed that up a minute later with an unassisted goal after he carried the ball through and around the right side of the defense and bounced an excellent shot off the keeper’s outstretched hands.
It was striker Hayden Thibeault’s turn next when with nine minutes gone in the half he picked up a feed to the near post position from midfielder Kasey Wood and then sent it across the goalmouth to the back post.
Midfielder Tristan Black picked up the next tally after receiving a pass from winger Joey LaChance and sent it immediately into the top corner of the nets. Black repeated his feat 15 minutes later, nailing a penalty kick after a Lions hands ball in the box.
To give the Lions their due, they rallied nicely in the second half, staging some fine penetrating drives on the Lincolnville net, but were unable to come up with the finisher.
Meanwhile, the Lynx keeper, Matt Kremin, now playing midfield—came up with two tallies. The first happened midway through the half after Kelly drove the left side of the field and crossed it to Kremin who promptly popped the ball into the net.
The final goal of the game came on a similar play, but the cross came from winger Lulu Lydon this time. Kremin one touched his shot for the score.
The shutout was recorded by a combination of Kremin in the first half and Fishman in the second.
