I first met Alison McKellar when she was a high school student helping poor people around the world, and I profiled her for my book on Camden, Maine Street. When she became a mother and couldn’t travel as much,  her yard on Mechanic Street became the collection point for supplies to Syria and I heard she was the largest, private-citizen donor to that country. 

How lucky we are that, with her bid for the select board of Camden, she is willing to lend her astonishing commitment and compassion to our town. It is apt that she was good friends with Leonard Lookner because she can fill his shoes.
