Promoting inclusiveness through this resolution is a non-binding, non-partisan way of saying that we as a community stand together; we want to welcome all kinds of people and extend a hand to those who already here who are at risk of being marginalized. 

We need to work together to make sure that all people no matter what their orientation, age, or status have the resources they need and can go about their lives safely. We live in a rapidly changing world, let’s recognize that excluding members of the community from essential services is not the best way forward for our city.

Rockland stands on the edge of substantial change as the city changes and becomes a more popular destination. We should resolve to grow in a way that is healthy for all our current and future citizens. Immigration is likely to reach us here and greeting those new people with open arms will make us a stronger city. 

Climate change is real and as a coastal city we should be should be considering the concrete actions that must be taken to mitigate the effects it will have on our community and economy. We are fortunate as Mainers to have so many beautiful natural resources, and resolving to recognize the environmental issues we face is appropriate and long overdue. 

As the co-owner of a downtown business, a Rockland homeowner, and a lifelong resident of the Midcoast, I stand in full support of the original Resolution to Promote Healthy Community and would be proud to be a member of a community that resolves to work hard to create a better life for all.
