SOUTH THOMASTON — John Spear has announced that he is a candidate for the District 92 seat in the Maine House of Representatives. He said he intends to run in the Democratic primary on June 14.

“If successful I will be honored to stand as my party's nominee in the November general election to represent all residents of Cushing, Matinicus, St. George, Thomaston, and my hometown, South Thomaston,” he said, in a publicity release. “During the upcoming campaign I hope to earn the confidence of the district's voters that I will be able to capably represent them in Augusta.

“My priorities will be to work diligently to insure that every Maine resident has access to effective and affordable health care and a robust public education, including pre-K and post secondary opportunities.

“I hope to rebuild the strained state/municipal partnership, with a focus on reducing property taxes for Maine residents and businesses. I will support effective governmental programs that serve Maine people well.

“I will support the continuation of public/private partnerships that help maintain a healthy environment which is critical to both Maine's traditional resource based industries and the tourist based economy. I will strongly support efforts to keep multiple use outdoor spaces accessible to all.

“I intend to support and herald, not demean, the individual and collective accomplishments of our public and private sector employees who on a daily basis work quietly and without fanfare to make Maine a safe and desirable place to live and enjoy.

“There are many critical issues facing the people of Maine. Solutions to many of these issues now languish, due to the tumultuous atmosphere that currently prevails in Augusta. I pledge to attempt to change this and work to restore an air of civility and goodwill to Statehouse proceedings. I look forward to putting my expertise in municipal government and my common-sense approach to problem solving to work for the people of District 92 and the State of Maine.
