An eye on the water: Ship traffic on Penobscot Bay
The following ship traffic on Penobscot Bay occurred from Jan. 10 to 15, as assisted by the Penobscot Bay and River Pilots Association, a pilotage service based in Belfast, and which serves Penobscot Bay, Frenchman Bay and the Penobscot River.
The Pilots are responsible for guiding any vessel required to take a pilot. The pilots board the vessels at offshore pilot stations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, weather permitting, and help the ships navigate to their destinations, and then back out of state waters. Penobscot Bay and River pilot captains are Dave Gelinas, Skip Strong, Jeff Cockburn, David Smith and Adam Philbrook.
