Dear Old Guy: Advice from the elder
Dear Old Guy welcomes letters on all subjects, including love, marriage, child rearing, even basic plumbing and medical advice. What he doesn’t know, he is happy to make up. After all, he’s just an opinionated Old Guy.
Dear Old Guy,
My rich in-laws have are offering us money to finish our house. I do appreciate it, but I think my husband and I should be able to support ourselves and our kids without their help. While my husband has no hesitation in asking his parents to pay for a whole host of stuff, I disagree. Am I wrong in not wanting to accept my in-laws money?

Dear Mother,
Assuming that you and your husband work hard and try to live responsibly within your means there should be no problem in accepting the occasional helping hand. Look at it this way, you would want to do the same for your kids some day. Besides, why wait until your in-laws are dead to spend their money. Let them see you enjoy it now. —O.G.
Dear Old Guy,
My 15-year-old best friend Joan is just wild about this boy she met. He is a grade older than she. They have come up with a scheme to go away for the weekend to a camp his father owns. I know there’s going to be alcohol and I don’t have to tell you what they are planning to do. I feel like I should tell my friend’s mother but if I do Joan would never talk to me again.

Dear Concerned,
Here is my advice to you and any kid out there. If you have a friend who is planning to engage in self destructive behavior do not, I repeat, do not think you can handle it alone. It may feel like you are backstabbing your best friend but you need to take the issue to a grownup. Best bet is a school counselor or trusted teacher. They will handle it in such a way your friend will never find it was you… and even if she did, better to loose her as a friend than to have her risk ruining her life. —O.G.
Dear Old Guy,
I have some body issues. Is liposuction expensive?

Dear Chubby,
From what I hear in England it will cost you about a 100 pounds. —O.G.
