Virgil O. Morse, obituary
TENANTS HARBOR — Virgil O. Morse, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on September 21, 2024 a mile away from where he was born. He was born at home on February 5,1940 to Virgil Morse and Dorothy Barter Morse.
He was schooled in St. George/Tenants Harbor and spent his entire life as a St. George resident.
For over 70 years he made his living as a Maine lobsterman and this year was the first year, he didn't have traps in the water due to health issues.
Hobbies throughout his life included fishing, snowmobiling and enjoying scenic drives throughout the state. He especially enjoyed taking his '57 Cadillac in parades and spending time with his various golden retrievers Jesse, Bandit and Cooper. He was extremely social and always had a story to tell.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor; daughters, Terri Morse of Vinalhaven, Judy Ventry and her husband Darren of Phippsburg and Paula Lunt and her husband William Lunt of Tenants Harbor; grandchildren: Rick Genthner and his wife Heidi, Matthew Blake and his wife Krysten, Larry Wellman, Jimmy Wellman, Jennifer Barnard and her husband Rusty, Crystal Redding and her husband Andrew, Scott Delano, and Nicholas Lunt and his significant other Charlotte Martin. He also has several great grandchildren and his special cat, Thomas.
Virgil is preceded by his father, Virgil Morse; his mother, Dorothy Barter Morse; brothers Clifford Morse, Gary (Bun) Morse, Wesley Morse, Albert Johnson; and sisters Evelyn Hart and Susan Libby.
He is survived by his brother William Morse.
