Camden Hills State Park creates new Trail Supervisor position, hires Lincolnville resident
CAMDEN — The Camden Hills State Park (CHSP) hired Lincolnville resident Erik Brooks for a new position called Trail Supervisor to coordinate, train, and lead volunteers. The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) will return to the Park this season.
“If you enjoy hiking and working outdoors amongst friends, I would love your help improving the trails,” said Brooks, in a news release.
MCC has done important work over the years rehabilitating eroded sections of trail, including Nature Trail in 2022 and soon Slope Trail in 2023, according to Brooks. But recognizing the backlog of work and need for annual maintenance on all trails within the park, with no gaps between years, CHSP is now looking to trail enthusiasts in the local community to help.
“We are making improvements to the trail system that was established in the late 1930s by the CCC,” said Park Manager Charlene “Sunshine” Hood. “Any donations and volunteerism is greatly appreciated!”
Brooks begins leading volunteers in routine annual maintenance this week, and when that is wrapped up in mid-May the focus will shift to bigger improvements along the Tablelands Trail. Other projects this year include replacement of the two decaying Bald Rock shelters.
Regular volunteer times on trails will be Tuesday and Friday mornings and two Saturdays per month. Groups interested in trail maintenance can arrange to work with Brooks at other times. No experience is necessary, tools and training will be provided. For more information email CamdenTrails@gmail.com.
