ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity boys soccer team extended its season-opening win streak to two games as the Windjammers (2-0) hosted, and defeated, the Brewer Witches (0-2) in Rockport on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Don Palmer Field. 

The undefeated Windjammers downed the visiting Witches 3-1 in the Tuesday afternoon contest. 

Adam Thorndike opened the scoring for the Windjammers at the 28 minute mark of the first half when scoring off a Quinn Brown assist. 

Brewer’s Gavin Carr evened the score with 13 minutes remaining until the halftime pause when scoring off a penalty kick. 

Camden Hills freshman Max Welt scored in the second half for the hosts off a Daniel Rodriguez assist to put the locals up 2-1. 

Rodriguez would score his own goal, courtesy a Brown assist, with eight minutes remaining to give Camden Hills its third goal of the day. 

Casey Messer stopped four of five Brewer shots in the goalie net for Camden Hills, while Brewer counterpart Matt Mousseau stopped five of 15 Windjammer shots. 

"We were a little slower to get started today but we finished the game strong and earned valuable heal points against a hungry Brewer team,” said Camden Hills head coach Ryan Hurley. “The boys did a great job keeping their composure and we had some new faces step forward and take their chances in some big moments. The [Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference] is shaping up to be very competitive this season and we are learning first hand the competitive edge that every game requires.”

The Windjammers look forward to its next contest, a homecoming showdown in Rockport, on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Messalonskee (2-0) at 3 p.m.

“We'll need the full support of the crowd to push us on to victory Saturday,” said Hurley.
