Penobscot Bay YMCA celebrates successful Summer Camp season thanks to donors
The Penobscot Bay YMCA wrapped up another incredible Summer Camp season this August, marking a successful end to months filled with fun, learning, and personal growth for the children in our community. The Y staff and board extend their deepest gratitude to the generous supporters whose contributions made it possible to provide affordable care to families in the Midcoast area this summer.
“The Y Summer Camp program provided 1,222 weeks of camp to 265 children from towns throughout the Midcoast region this year. Our campers enjoyed lakes, parks and beaches, explored lighthouses and museums, and had a blast making new friends! Central to our program’s mission is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the life-changing magic of summer camp. Each year, we raise funds to ensure that our camp remains accessible and affordable for working families. By supporting the Y Summer Camp Campaign, donors play a vital role in guaranteeing that every child in our community can participate in our enriching camp programs,” said Whitney Files, Penobscot Bay YMCA CEO.
This year, the Y raised $71,000 towards their $80,000 fundraising goal, coming within sight of their target. “The Y is committed to ensuring that all children have access to these vital summer experiences,” says board chair Becca Babb-Brott. “Childcare is one of the largest expenses for families, particularly those with lower incomes. By keeping our camp program fees affordable and ensuring financial assistance was available for nearly 350 weeks of camp this summer, we are providing a critical service for working parents, which is also vital for our local economy.”
