Letter to the editor: Fulford for new ideas
Cutting ties with fossil fuels and investing in the new energy economy would be an enormous economic boost for Waldo County. Mainers spend six billion dollars each year on fossil fuels, and eighty percent of those dollars leave the state (Waldo County’s share accounts for 176 million.)
While Senator Thibodeau’s signs claim “Together we can dig our way out,” instead of helping Waldo County residents out from under the crushing burden of fossil fuel payments, Thibodeau accepted the maximum allowed campaign contribution from the Maine Energy Marketers Association, formerly known as the Maine Oil Dealers Association.
Jonathan Fulford knows that investing in wind and solar energy, and in weatherization and insulation creates good-paying jobs at all levels of our local economy, reduces our dependence on fossil fuels, keeps hard-earned dollars in our local communities, and keeps harmful greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere.
Fulford is a proponent of the new energy economy which will give talented and hard-working people in Maine a way to remain in this great state to live and work. Fulford will start us on the path of leadership that LePage, Thibodeau, and their fellow Republican lawmakers have refused.
Mike Thibodeau is well known in Waldo County because he shows up at community functions, and his big red trailer truck is a fixture in parades, but we need a Senator who strongly advocates for progressive changes that benefit Waldo County residents.
Jonathan Fulford has the integrity, courage and dedication to propose real solutions to global climate change, and with fresh ideas Maine can begin to lead once more.
On November 8, I’ll be casting a vote for more than a name on the side of a truck. I’m voting for ideas and the courage to act on them. I’m voting Fulford.
