Leander (Lee) E. Guptill, obituary

SPRUCE HEAD — Leander (Lee) E Guptill passed away peacefully at his home in Spruce Head, Maine on March 26, 2024. Lee was the youngest of 7, born January 18, 1927, to the late William and Olive Cook Guptill in Marshfield, Maine.

Lee was a dedicated 33 Degree Mason having been a Mason for over 50+ years, and later became a Shriner. Up until the time of his death he was an active member of the Grange at Wiley's Corner.

He loved hunting, motorcycles and traveling. Lee also loved listening to music 24/7, also playing the guitar and other stringed instruments with his special nephews Carl Dinsmore, Sonny Hooper and Wayne Dinsmore. He loved animals, especially his son Darrel's dog Scooter, with whom the feelings were mutual, and his granddaughter Michele's horse Jewel.

Lee did a number of jobs during his time, but seemed to like logging and dirt work the most.

Lee was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife, Doris; sisters Evelyn, Flora and Marion; his brothers, Dean, Dwight and Burton; step son George and step daughter Gail; his granddaughter Melinda, and his grandson James.

Lee is survived by his loving daughters and sons Leanette Philbrook, and Brenda Guptill Kaler, Charles and Darrel Guptill; grandchildren Torry, Shelly, Luke, Michele, Christopher,Veronica, Dennis, and Angie; great grandchildren Tyler, Ansel, Owen, Tyler, Lyric, Lexie, Iris, Kaila, Mariah, Monique, Tyler and Aleia; great great grandsons Andreas and Levi. Also many nieces, nephews and special friends that meant so much to him.

A celebration of life for Lee will be held on Sunday, August 25, at 1 p.m., at the Wiley Corner Grange Hall in St. George, Maine.

There will be a graveside Mason service, Saturday, August 31, at 12:30 p.m., at the Wildwood Cemetery, Guptill Road, Wesley, Maine, performed by his great nephew Eric Guptill.
