ROCKLAND — Trekkers, a youth development organization based in Rockland, has named Kate Elmes its Interim Executive Director.

“Elmes has served as Trekkers’ Director of Development for nearly six years, playing a pivotal role during a period of inspiring growth for the thirty-year-old organization, and will guide the organization through a leadership transition,” said Trekkers, in a news release.

Elmes succeeds Amie Hutchison, who led Trekkers since 2016 and left in April to join the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation.

“We are beyond thrilled that Kate Elmes is stepping up to continue the incredible momentum behind Trekkers and lead us through this transition period,” said Trekkers Board of Directors President Kathleen Meil. "Kate has already contributed so much to the Trekkers community, serving on our senior leadership team, helping to fully integrate our development and program work, helping to create our strategic plan, launching our first capital campaign, and securing nearly a million dollars in a federal grant to transform the Trekkers campus into a true community hub for youth development. It’s because of her leadership – along with the incredible team of staff, students, families, and volunteers – that the Board is so confident in Trekkers’ future.”

“I’ve seen the truly transformational impact Trekkers has on our students, their families, and the entire Midcoast community,” Elmes said. “Thanks to our incredible staff, board, volunteers, and supporters we have so much momentum behind our work supporting young people. I’m honored and excited to help lead Trekkers forward in this next chapter.”
