Wed, 05/08/2024 - 5:00pm

This week, Knox County Homeless Coalition (KCHC) proudly unveiled its new name: HOMEWORTHY. After a decade of unwavering commitment to serving the Midcoast community, the organization adopted a name that encapsulates its core belief: every individual is inherently worthy of a place to call home.

Over the past 10 years, HOMEWORTHY has been instrumental in transforming the lives of thousands of individuals and families across Knox, Waldo, and Lincoln counties. 1,140 individuals and families have found new homes, while over 80,000 nights of safe shelter have been provided since the organization's inception.

Reflecting on this milestone, Executive Director Molly Feeney remarked, "It's a privilege to be part of an organization that recognizes the fundamental importance of having a home. Our team is dedicated to seeing and affirming the worth of every individual we serve. This new name symbolizes our progress, evolution, and ongoing commitment to serving with dignity and determination."

HOMEWORTHY remains steadfast in its mission to address homelessness in Midcoast Maine and break the cycle of poverty. Through a range of programs and services, including a family shelter, outreach services, housing navigation, case management, and educational and workforce resources, HOMEWORTHY provides comprehensive support to those in need. Moreover, the organization's youth initiatives at The Landing Place remain robust, delivering essential support to local youth. Serving as a cornerstone of HOMEWORTHY's prevention strategy, The Landing Place seamlessly integrates with the organization's intervention efforts, forming a powerful dual approach in combating homelessness and poverty.

As HOMEWORTHY embarks on this new chapter, the organization extends its reach beyond Knox County, welcoming all who seek assistance in finding stable housing in the midcoast. Currently, HOMEWORTHY engages with over 1,000 community members each month, with over 50% of those served being youth.

Caroline Morong, Chair of the HOMEWORTHY Board, expressed pride in the organization's evolution, stating, "We are immensely proud of the organization we've become. Built upon the foundation laid by those who came before us, KCHC was born out of a commitment to addressing a critical need in our community. As HOMEWORTHY, we carry forward that responsibility with unwavering dedication as we enter this new decade of service."

As HOMEWORTHY celebrates this significant milestone, the organization invites community members to join in its mission. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, everyone has a role to play in ensuring that every individual has a place to call home.
