John Fromer will lead an online presentation called, Perennial Garden Design, hosted by Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, May 14, at 12 p.m. 

“As gardeners, we enjoy growing perennials because they add beauty to the garden, are economical, and can live for many years,” said Merryspring, in a news release. “We wait and watch for our favorite plants to emerge every spring. However sometimes we are surprised to find some of our plants missing. Many factors cause plant mortality, like age, weather, soil, disease/insects, and care. While some plants live as long as we do, ‘perennial’ means at least three years in gardening terms.”

A Maine Master Gardener Volunteer, Fromer will include some history of traditional design styles, and will explain methods and tools for creating beautiful gardens for Midcoast Maine. He will also cover how plant life expectancy impacts your design, how to plan your garden’s evolution. Handouts and links will help you make informed decisions for your own gardens.
