Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School is deeply saddened by the loss of its Executive Director and dear friend Monica Kelly, who passed away on Friday, May 3.

While she had been bravely battling leukemia for several months, it was hoped that she would make a recovery and be able to return to her post directing the organization she led for over 10 years.

Under Monica’s remarkable leadership, Bay Chamber’s music school was born and its long-standing concert series continued to grow in distinction and reach. With her guidance and perseverance, the organization reached its $8 million campaign goal and constructed a new state-of-the-art home in Camden, which will officially open in July.

She was a significant role model for the staff at Bay Chamber, leading with grace, patience, and a keen sense of business acumen. It is because of this that she leaves the organization in strong hands. The staff and board are equipped to continue the work to which she was so committed, and are honored to carry forward her legacy.

Beyond her enormous contribution to Bay Chamber, she was a beloved and respected member of the Midcoast community. Her loss will be deeply felt by her colleagues, friends, and family.

A full obituary will be forthcoming, along with any memorial arrangements that her family wishes to convey.
