LIBERTY — A three vehicle crash in Liberty today resulted in two people being transported to the hospital, one via LifeFlight of Maine, the other via ambulance, according to a press release from Waldo County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cody Laite.

Law enforcement was alerted about the crash at approximately 3:06 p.m., when Waldo County Regional Communications began receiving calls reporting a multiple vehicle crash near the intersection of Belfast/Augusta Road and West Main Street. Several agencies responded to the scene including the WSO, Maine State Police, and several local area fire departments and emergency medical services.

According to the release, initial investigation revealed that the crash involved three motor vehicles; one was a passenger car, the second a full size pickup, and the third a commercial dump truck.

A request for the Washington Fire Department was heard via scanner at 3:24 p.m. for use of it’s jaws of life equipment.

Due to the location and severity of the crash, traffic was detoured for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated. Maine State Police completed a crash reconstruction and forensic mapping.

While two were transported from the scene for medical attention, the release does not indicate which vehicles the injured were located within, or the status of the third driver.

The crash remains under investigation and additional details will be released at a later date, according to the release.

    UPDATE:

Waldo County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cody Laite has released an updated press release regarding the three vehicle accident in Liberty yesterday, which left two seriously injured.

The passenger car that was involved in the crash was a 2002 Toyota Camry, which was being operated by Blair Fuller-Barnard, 18, of Montville. Fuller-Barnard sustained serious injuries and was taken by LifeFlight of Maine for treatment. She remains in critical condition, according to the release. There was also a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Donovan Aldus, 19, of Montville, who also sustained serious injury. Aldus was initially transported to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment via ambulance, though he was then flown for further care by LifeFlight of Maine.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500, has been identified as Todd Farrington, 58, of Freeport.

The dump truck was a 2020 Western Star being operated by Alfred Lancaster, 62, of Belgrade.

According to Lt. Laite’s most recent release, although the crash circumstances remain under investigation, the primary contributing factor that resulted in this crash was a failure to yield right of way. As Barnard-Fuller attempted to turn from West Main Street onto Belfast Augusta Road, she failed to yield the right of way to Farrington, who was traveling westbound and Lancaster, who was traveling eastbound on Belfast Augusta Road (Route 3).

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be contributing factors. AC Towing from Gardiner responded and removed all three vehicles.
