UPDATED: Chase to Wiscasset follows reported armed robbery in Union
UNION — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported armed robbery at Common Road apartment in Union soon after 1 p.m., Aug. 14, and following a car chase through Knox and Lincoln counties, deputies arrested two men, one from Thomaston, the other from Connecticut, on several counts.
The victim told deputies that a man had forced his way into his apartment with a gun, struck him in the head, forced him into his bathroom, locked the door and demanded money and drugs, the report said. There was a friend at the apartment, but he left with the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspects left Union in a white Nissan sedan. Deputies issued the license plate number to law enforcement in nearby counties, and a short time later, the Nissan was spotted heading south on Route 1.
A Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the car and a chase ensued, the report said. The chase lasted a few miles before ending safely in Wiscasset, where two men in the car were detained. Read the Wiscasset Newspaper for details of the chase’s end here.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Paul A. Milardo, 40, of Thomaston, and David A. Williams Jr., 24, of Middletown, Conn., were arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft of drugs and theft. Both were taken to Knox County Jail in Rockland. More charges may be pending, the sheriff’s office said.
Officers from Lincoln and Sagadahoc county sheriff’s offices and Maine Marine Patrol assisted in pursuing the car for approximately two miles. Eventually the driver did stop on his own, the report said.
