Swanville man ejected, seriously injured following Saturday crash
SWANVILLE — A Swanville man sustained serious injuries in a Saturday evening crash, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Steven McFadden, 45, was traveling in his 1999 Volvo on Oak Hill Road in Swanville, when the car left the roadway and struck a tree broadside on the passenger side. The crash was reported at 7:22 p.m. May 16.
McFadden, who was reportedly not wearing his seat belt at the time, was thrown from the vehicle upon impact. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
McFadden was first transported to Waldo County General Hospital by Belfast Ambulance, and was later taken by Lifeflight of Maine helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
The crash, and the cause of the crash remain under investigation by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department, according to a press release. It is being investigated by Deputy Daniel Thompson with assistance from Sgt. James Greeley.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department and Rockland Police Department also responded to the scene to reconstruct the crash.
“Speed appears to have been a factor,” Waldo County Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton said.
