Route 1 road work near Pen Bay Medical Center entrance, April 28-May 9
ROCKPORT — Beginning Monday, April 28, through Friday, May 9, contractors will be working near Pen Bay Medical Center's hospital entrance intersection on Route 1 in Rockport in order to install a water main as part of the construction of the Sussman House, Pen Bay Healthcare’s new hospice facility.
Traffic control management will include signage, devices and professional flaggers, according to a notice from Pen Bay Healthcare. If an inbound ambulance approaches the intersection, all work will stop and flaggers will direct traffic to clear the way for the ambulance.
This work is weather-dependent and is scheduled to begin April 28 at 6:30 a.m. The project will require various lanes on Route 1 to be closed for earthwork equipment and a truck staging area.
The hospital main entrance at Glen Cove Drive will also have alternating closures of the entrance and exit lanes as work ensues. Two-way traffic will continue while work is completed. Flaggers will be onsite to guide travelers through the intersection and/or into the temporary hospital entrance.
Flaggers will also guide travelers through the construction zone and lane closures. Temporary entrance and exit lanes will be coned. Throughout the week, the signal lights at the intersection may also be altered to control the flow of traffic around the construction zone and through the intersection.
