Rockland Harbor Master Ed Glaser back at work
ROCKLAND — Harbor Master Ed Glaser returned to work at the Rockland Public Landing Friday, June 19, only a few days after being put on an administrative leave until Monday, June 22.
Last week, Rockland City Manager James Chaousis II placed Glaser and a long-time city employee Raymond Athearn on suspension. The suspensions were not officially publicized, but articles in the Bangor Daily News and the Courier Gazette brought the issue to light. In those articles, Glaser did not comment on what prompted the shifting and re-shifting of duties between him and the assistant harbor master.
"We're just as confused as you are," Glaser said as he looked out over the view of the harbor from his office.
Although the reason for the June 22 deadline was not given, Rockland City Councilors will be meeting in executive session this evening to discuss "matters pertaining to employment, appointment, assignment, duties, promotion, demotion, compensation, disciplining, resignation or dismissal of employees, to discuss a personnel matter," according to the special-meeting agenda.
According to Glaser, Chaousis contacted him last Thursday, requesting his immediate return to work.
Glaser worked Friday and Saturday, took his usual day off on Sunday, and returned to work today.
"I'm here now," he said, "and I will be here for the rest of the summer."
