Rockland Fire called to rescue injured contractor off Hannaford roof
ROCKLAND — It took just 15 minutes or so for Rockland firefighters to set up their equipment and rescue an injured contractor off a roof Saturday morning, but for the worker, it’s likely it felt like a lifetime.
Rockland Fire Lt. Jamie Leo Saturday evening said that the call for assistance at the Hannaford supermarket on Maverick Street came in around 10:30 a.m.
“A contractor up on the roof, removing snow, did something and injured his knee,” said Leo. “There was no way to get him off the roof, and they couldn’t get him off on their own down their ladders, so we were called to help.”
Rockland Fire and Ems crews were joined on scene by Tower 3. Leo said the injured male contractor was treated on the roof, then loaded into a Stokes basket.
“We have the ability to hook up the basket to the end of the tower, so we hooked the Stokes onto the tower and lowered him to the ground,” said Leo.
The man, who is not being identified, was transported by Rockland EMS to Pen Bay Medical Center for treatment, according to Leo.
He also said they cleared the scene around 11:25 a.m.
