Rockland Council confirms new Fire Chief appointment
ROCKLAND — The Rockland City Council on Monday evening, May 9, confirmed the appointment of Christopher Whytock as fire chief for the city. Councilor Will Clayton said they would be in remiss if they did not thank Adam Miceli for filling in as interim chief for the last two years. Whytock has been a firefighter with the city his entire 17-year career.
“You have some big shoes to fill,” said Clayton, “not only with Adam, but predecessors as well.”

Councilor Larry Pritchett thanked Whytock for the service he had already put into the city and for his work to come.
Councilor Valli Geiger congratulated Whytock, and said: “I understand you were not the only applicant from within the department. I wanted to say how delighted I am that so many people were willing to step forward and serve in our own community. I think that’s a great statement about the fire department. Thank you to everyone who applied and congratulations, Chris, on your selection.”
In other business, the mayor announced that the city had received a piece of 9-11 from New York City buildings.
“I think it is apropos that it came in today,” she said. “There was a group of us — Adam, Charlie Jordon, Mike McNeil and Glen Tierney. We waited about a year and it didn’t arrive and unexpectedly it arrived. That will be a discussion coming up on how we will handle it.”
