Old friends make good sound at K2 Music
CAMDEN — K2 Music, at the Reny’s Plaza in Camden, celebrated its one year anniversary in April. Harvey Curtis and Mac Economy, owners of K2 Music, maintain the largest selection of acoustic and electric musical instruments, print music, and accessories in the Midcoast.
"We believe that good, quality musical instruction can set the stage for a lifetime of musical enjoyment," said Economy. "Our instructors are both skilled musicians and skilled teachers."
The first year flew by, he said. Ukuleles are the hottest selling item in the store and range in price from $39 to $400. Economy said it is a easy instrument to learn to play and customers can take lessons right there in the store.
“We love being in this location,” he said. “Reny’s Plaza is a great place to be. This is a store that we got to design, just Harvey and I. People love the store, and the layout. We are both grateful and thankful that the musical heritage we brought here with us continues on the Midcoast. It’s your music and it’s your music store.”
Both Economy and Curtis worked at the former Northern Kingdom, which closed in 2011. Between them, they have 36 years of musical experience, 13 of them spent as manager and assistant manager of Northern Kingdom.
Their previous experience allowed them to become familiar with the areas musicians and their needs. The new store offers instruments, amplifiers and just about every accessory known to mankind. That loyal customer base the two garnered in their previous jobs followed them to K2 and found the same degree of personal attention that satisfied them from the start.
“We try to anticipate our customers’ needs for both instruments and accessories and stock as many of the standard items as we can," said Economy. “However, we can get practically anything you could ever dream of, usually in just a day or two.”
