Oceanside claims 10/11-year-old district crown
ROCKLAND — The Oceanside 10- and 11-year-old baseball squad lit up the scoreboard, again, in the winner-take-all District 2 championship against Medomak Valley at Rockland’s Gordon Field July 20.
The newly crowned champions, who will begin their state tournament in Windham July 25, bested Medomak Valley 10-5.
Team members for Oceanside included Nathaniel Barnard, Austin Chilles, Joe Curtis, Will Eaton, Darik Johnson, Finn Lynch, Hunter Moore, Hunter Norton, Logan Putansu, Tyler Sukeforth, Zachary Upham and Landon Willis. The team is managed by Davin Putansu.
Team members for Medomak Valley included Noah Crosby, Parker Morrison, Colby Castner, Colvin Standring, Adam Berry, Ethan Reed, Jake Bickmore, Zach Winpenny, Addison Mellor, Garret Hutchins, Anthony York, Isiah Staples, Aiden Starr and Zach Benner. The team is managed by Scott Martin and coached by Chad Reed and Andrew Bickmore.
Oceanside chalked up two runs in the second inning, five in the fourth and three in the fifth. Medomak Valley plated one run in the first and two in each of the third and sixth innings.
At the plate for Oceanside were Putansu (two singles, two runs), Upham (single, run), Curtis (single, triple), Norton (single), Barnard (run), Willis (run), Sukeforth (single, three runs) and Johnson (two runs).
In the batter’s box for Medomak Valley were York (run), Winpenny (two singles, two runs), Reed (two singles), Berry (single), Mellor (two singles, run), Standring (single, run) and Bickmore (single, run).
