New York City man arrested for trafficking Oxycodone in Searsport
SEARSPORT — Maine Drug Enforcement agents announced Tuesday afternoon that they arrested a 32-year-old man from the Bronx, N.Y., Monday night for allegedly selling Oxycodone.
As a result of a several-month investigation into the illegal distribution of prescription narcotics throughout the Midcoast, Jason Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (Oxycodone), a class A crime in Maine.
The MDEA’s illegal drug trafficking investigation focused on the proliferation of Oxycodone into the region. According to a press release, agents identified a drug supply source who for over the past year was allegedly responsible for distributing thousands of Oxycodone pills along the coast, as well as in greater Bangor and Augusta.
As part of the investigation, an undercover MDEA agent arranged to take delivery of 200 Oxycodone pills from Jones, who also goes by the street name “Smiley.”
Jones traveled from Bangor to a Route 1 convenience store in Searsport to meet with the undercover agent, and was arrested Jan. 26 at around 8 p.m. Maine State Police troopers and Searsport Police officer arrested Jones without incident, according to the release.
Seized from Jones were 200 30-milligram Oxycodone pills, with a street value of $40-$45 per pill. Jones was transported to Waldo County Jail, where his bail was set at $50,000 cash.
“This arrest and seizure continues to highlight the increasing trend of out-of-state drug dealers traveling to Maine,” said the release. “MDEA stands committed to working with all of our law enforcement partners in keeping all illicit drugs out of Maine communities and prosecuting those who distribute them.”
