Marjorie Smith, obituary
WARREN — Marjorie Yeager Smith, 86, passed away peacefully May 24, 2016, surrounded by loved ones, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
Born March 13, 1930, in Chicago Ill., the daughter of Ruth E. Tompkins and William Dumke, she was raised in Las Vegas, Nev., by Ruth and George C. Yeager. She was a 1948 graduate of Las Vegas High School and attended nursing school in Chicago.
Marjorie married William Floyd Smith on Feb. 14, 1961. She went back to school and completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Seattle Pacific University and became a family nurse practitioner in 1983. She went on to get her Master of Science in nursing in 1985 from University of Washington. She worked in many settings helping people, including at State Prison in Monroe, Wash., the Veterans Administration in Seattle and at a methadone treatment center in Seattle.
Marjorie was widowed on Feb. 1, 2008. In August 2009, she moved to Warren to live closer to her daughter, Dorie, and 10 of her grandchildren.
Marjorie was a lovely woman who will be remembered for her unconditional love of family, her dedication to her Savior Jesus Christ and her bright smile. She was active in the auxillary of the Gideons International distributing bibles wherever she lived.
Marjorie is survived by her son, George K. Smith of Pickens, S.C.; her daughters, Dorie Spear of Cushing and Lynda R. Jensen of Deming, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Marjorie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Greenville, S.C. Services will be held there.
