CAMDEN — John Robert Kincade, 95, died June 30, 2016, at his home in Camden, with his son, daughter and wife of 68 years by his side.

Born in Huron County, Mich., on Jan. 24, 1921, he was the son of John Armstrong and Jennie (Allan) Kincade. John was born at the family farm and never lost his love of farming. He was a graduate of Kinde High School and he and his brother ran the farm after his father's death.

In 1942, John joined the U.S Marines and served in many of the island battles in the South Pacific during World War II. He was always very proud of being a Marine and of his service to his country. After World War II, he returned to the farm in Michigan.

During the winter months of 1948, John worked in Florida, where he met and married June Cole. Their son was born in 1950, and in 1952, they left the farm due to his allergies. Their daughter was born in 1953 in California and they moved that year to Camden, where June had spent summers as a child visiting her grandparents.

Bob, as his family and close friends called him, worked at the Camden Post Office as a postal carrier for several years, then as a rural carrier in Lincolnville, where he became postmaster. In 1982, he retired.

While in Camden, Bob served as scout master for Boy Scout Troop 200 for several years and also with Little League. He and some male friends enjoyed playing poker every Thursday night for many years. He always had a wonderful vegetable garden and sold raspberries to French & Brawn for .39 a quart. Each year, he and June would have a "corn feed" picnic in the fall for all of their friends.

After his retirement, Bob and June moved to Coleman Pond in Lincolnville, where they enjoyed living for over 20 years before moving back to Camden. They spent many winters traveling across the country and to Florida in their motor home. He liked camping, traveling, reading and playing cards. His hobby was wood carving.

Bob was a quiet man, and one you could count on to tell you the truth. He loved his family above all else and was proud of his son and daughter and their families.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Crystal Lynn; a grandson, Eric Overlock; his three sisters, Helen Waterloo, Doris Keatts and Jean Heilig; and a brother, Raymond Frank Kincade.

Surviving are his wife, June Kincade; a son, John Kincade and his wife, Candace, of California; a daughter, Carolyn Birbeck of Rockland; his grandchildren, Christopher and Samuel Kincade, Jenifer Martinez and her husband, Danny, Keri Quezada and her husband, Oscar; Adam Overlock and Deirdre Birbeck; five great-grandchildren, Veronica Cortez, Cole, Eliana and Charlotte Martinez, and Valerie Quezada; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, there are no public services planned.
