Hermon man crashes Subaru into Lincolnville home

LINCOLNVILLE — A 22-year-old Hermon man was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast late Monday afternoon following a harrowing accident on Slab City Road in Lincolnville.
Skid marks indicated the man's Subaru Outback was traveling west when it came around a corner and crested a slight incline before the car veered off the right on the north side, went down into a short, deep gulley and came back up the other side, where it met a pickup truck in Ray Lovejoy's driveway.
The Subaru hit the back of the pickup truck, causing it to roll onto its side as it also hit the back end of Lovejoy's home, sitting just feet away from his parked truck.
"That's why I always keep my vehicle there, they just come too fast around the bend and it offers some sort of protection," said Lovejoy as he emerged from the back of a Camden First Aid Association ambulance, shook up but uninjured.
Two CFAA ambulances were called to the scene at 367 Slab City Road around 3:30 p.m. along with Lincolnville Fire Department. The initial call included the Camden Access Team, but the emergency rescuers and their hydraulic equipment were turned around moments later when it was learned the driver had been extricated.
Lovejoy said he was inside his home, "nice and snuggled up under a blanket, had just a glass of soda and relaxing my sore leg" when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a vehicle fly by the window.
"I was watching TV, then BAM!" said Lovejoy. "I couldn't believe it."
Lovejoy said the driver was still in the vehicle when he stepped outside to see what happened.
"They go so fast around this corner. A car last winter went through my neighbor's barn and landed in front of my house," said Lovejoy, as he pointed just up the road, from where the Subaru had come from. "This guy would have gotten me if my truck wasn't parked there."
Waldo County Deputy Arthur Smith, who declined to identify the driver pending notification of family, said the driver was suffering from neck pain and memory loss. An accident reconstructionist was called to help determine the cause of the crash, said Smith.
"He has no recollection at this time of what happened," said Smith. "And there are no obvious signs of impairment."
