Henry Knox: Somebody you ‘totally should know’ and can via new museum website
THOMASTON — Knox Museum unrolled its new website, knoxmuseum.org, on Facebook and by e-mail to its membership earlier this month. The new site, underwritten by Museum trustee Robert Shotwell, and designed by the Tourmaline Team at Steel House in Rockland, met almost immediately with significantly greater viewership than anticipated, and promptly crashed.
Ah, technology.
Knox Museum is happy to report that its server capacity has since been expanded, and the site is now operating at full speed.
Museum staff said there are still a few kinks here and there that remain to be worked out, as well as some content adjustments, but generally speaking the response to the new website design has been overwhelmingly positive. It has lots more bells and whistles than the previous site, uses far more imagery, and perhaps most important of all, is designed for use on mobile devices.
From the new website:
What you might not know about Henry Knox is a lot.
He was there. At Bunker Hill. At Trenton. Yorktown. Brandywine. At Valley Forge. Henry Knox was there. He was Chief of Artillery. He was the one who yelled: "Fire!" He was right in the thick of it.
He earned the respect and life-long friendship of George Washington, was his right-hand man throughout the war, stood beside him crossing the Delaware and served in his cabinet. He may not have signed the Declaration of Independence, but he sure did risk his neck to make it possible.
Henry Knox was somebody, still is somebody, you totally should know.
