Fire Marshal’s Office: Goose River Grocery fire was arson

BELFAST — Investigators with the Maine Fire Marshal's Office have ruled the fire at a local grocery store last month an act of arson, according to a press release from the Belfast Police Department released Aug. 6.
The late night blaze on July 15 caused significant damage to the interior of Goose River Grocery, and was reportedly worse in the vicinity of the kitchen at the rear of the building.
Speaking early Thursday afternoon, Belfast Police Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said the department was not releasing additional details beyond the determination that the fire was intentionally set.
"We know that it was arson, but now we need to continue to prove who committed the arson,” he said, nothing that disclosing information about how the fire was ignited or other findings could jeopardize the criminal investigation.
