ROCKLAND – Doris Taylor Huber, 90, died Nov. 28, 2014, surrounded by her family at her Bartlett Woods home.

Born Aug. 6, 1924, in Calais, she was the daughter of Herbert A. and Mary Carl Taylor. Raised in Bingham, she attended Bingham schools and was valedictorian of Bingham High School class of 1941.

That fall she began studies at Colby College in Waterville, where she graduated in 1945 having earned a Bachelor of Arts in history.

While at Colby College, Doris met the man who would become the “love of her life,” Paul R. Huber. They were married prior to his deployment with the U.S. Army, overseas during World War II.

They made their first home in Waterville and moved to Rockland in 1951. The Hubers were one of the first families to build on Samoset Road, and over the years were involved with their children in that close-knit community.

As well as being a devoted mother and homemaker, she worked several years as assistant librarian at Rockland District High School and later at Camden/Rockport High School. Continuing her love of books, reading and serving people, Doris worked at the Reading Corner book store in Rockland from its original opening until she was almost 80. Even after retiring, she volunteered another 10 years at the Rockland Public Library.

In earlier years, she served as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Rockland Jaycees. She attended the Rockland Congregational Church and was a member of the Rockland Historical Society.

Since moving to Bartlett Woods, Doris enjoyed the sense of community, as well as the many friendships she established with her neighbors and staff.

Her five daughters remember they always knew their mother loved them, but were keenly aware she absolutely adored her sons-in-law and grandchildren. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her daughters and, like her husband, was an avid Red Sox fan.

Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband in 1988. She is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Deborah H. and Peter Burt of Princeton, N.J., Kathrine H. and Donald McFarland of Gardiner, Joan H. and Francis Kulle of West Rockport, Elaine H. and Gary Neville of Lincolnville, and Jean H. and Dennis Edmondson of Bath; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Burt and his wife, Camille Hernandez-Burt, of Princeton, N.J., Laura Moustakerski and her husband, Peter, of New York City, Brad McFarland, and Sara Tweedy and her husband, Mark, all of West Gardiner, Lauren Kulle of Sarasota, Fla., Nathan Neville and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bradenton, Fla., Rebecca Neville of Boston, Mass., Claire Neville of Camden, and Isaac Edmondson and Caleb Edmondson, both of Bath; 13 great-grandchildren, Joaquin, Anna M., Alexander, Domingo, Marc, Miranda, Ben, Seth, Jackson, Taylor, Anna T., Michael and Brooklyn.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
