Blaze consumes box truck in Northport
NORTHPORT — Tom Quinn, of Camden, was at work Monday, June 12, at approximately 9:20 a.m., when he looked out the window and noticed a bunch of people standing in the driveway. Across the street, a box truck was ablaze. He grabbed his camera and captured the scene with these photos.
There were no injuries.
The dual axle box truck caught fire near the entrance to Wentworth's market, on Route 1, in Northport.
According to Northport firefighters, the origin of the fire appears to have been mechanical. The driver noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment, pulled over and hopped out.
“It was quick and hot,” said one firefighter.
The fire appeared to have started in the engine compartment and spread to the cab and eventually to the box, which was full of newspapers and magazines.
Northport Fire Department responded and was assisted by the Lincolnville Fire Department. They extinguished the fire with water, and cleared the scene in less than an hour.
