Appleton man, 13-year-old girl injured in motorcycle crash with turning pickup truck




APPLETON — An Appleton man sustained serious injuries that necessitated him being transferred by helicopter to a Bangor hospital Thursday morning following a motorcycle accident on Sennebec Road.
Scott Wiley, 40, was traveling northeast on Sennebec Road in Appleton around 8 a.m. as a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction, toward Wiley.
According to Knox County Sheriff's Lt. Kirk Guerette, the pickup truck, being driven by 48-year-old Herman Summers, turned left into a driveway and into the path of Wiley and his motorcycle.
The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the truck and Wiley and a 13-year-old passenger were thrown off.
Wiley and his passenger were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where Wiley was then flown by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Guerette, who is investigating the accident, the unidentified passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at Pen Bay.
