Andrew B. York, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Andrew B. “Andy” York, 67, died unexpectedly of natural causes Feb. 14, 2014, at his home.
Born in Thomaston Oct. 11, 1946, he was the son of Carroll R. and Dorothy M. Curtis York. Although born in Thomaston, he grew up in Owls Head.
During his first marriage, Andy lived in Rockland until the early 1980s, when he returned to Owls Head. At that time he built the home where he has since lived.
For many years, he owned a pet monkey. Andy was the unofficial South End Maritime Farms police. He arrived at that store every morning at 5:45 a.m.
For several years, he lobstered out of Owls Head aboard his boat, an old Jonesporter, the FV See Smoke. Andy was often accompanied by his second wife, Linda Kaler York, and their son, Christopher.
Long active in the community, for more than 16 years, Andy served the town of Owls Head as keeper of the stump dump. For many years he served as a fire police officer with the Owls Head Fire Department.
Speaking of his father, Andy's son said that his father was always willing to help anyone in need and that he was one of the best natured people he ever met.
An avid citizens band radio user, Andy was known by the handle “Blue Dolphin.”
Other than his parents, Andy was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Tozyer. He is survived by one son, Christopher G. Harlow of Owls Head; a twin sister, Donna Bradford of Rockport; a sister, Madeline Bradford of Rockland; a niece and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A remembrance service will be held Thursday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in the Owls Head Cemetery.
